Prebiotics are a food source for probiotics to grow and flourish. They cannot be
absorbed or broken down by the body and therefore serve as a great food source for the bifidobacteria in particular. |

Research shows that a good balance of friendly bacteria in our bodies helps to maintain healthy digestion, a strong immune system and overall wellbeing. However this balance between friendly probiotic bacteria and bad pathogenic bacteria is very fragile and can easily be disrupted by factors such as medication (e.g. antibiotics), environment, diet and stress. In addition, living with higher hygiene standards in the west has increased the vulnerability of our immune systems as we become less accustomed to being in contact with and fighting bad bacteria (pathogens). The result is that many people
especially those in the West have an imbalance between the good and bad bacteria
and less variety and quantity of friendly bacteria in the intestines.
Note: Probiotics are not recommended for severely immunosuppressed patients, post cardiac surgery patients, patients with pancreatic dysfunction or patients with blood in the stool unless under a doctor’s care. |

There are a large number of clinical studies highlighting that
probiotics are totally safe for human consumption. In addition it is noted that it is not possible to take too many probiotics and large dosages do not have negative effects.

No. Different probiotic strains have unique properties and exert their beneficial effects in different parts of the intestines, so it is important when choosing a probiotic to select a potent formula containing particular strains that support your specific health needs.
In addition, when purchasing probiotics, it is recommended that you choose a formula with guaranteed viability of probiotic strains that have been well researched and documented in their ability to survive the acidic stomach environment
and bile salts and their ability to proliferate well and colonise in the upper and lower intestines where they exert their probiotic benefits. DTECTA Probiotics offer a superior range of probiotic formulas taking all these points into account.

Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest significant
amounts of lactose, the predominant sugar found in milk. This inability results
from a shortage of the enzyme lactase. Lactase breaks down lactose into simpler
forms that can then be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Nearly all probiotic strains in DTECTA Probiotics are B-galactosidase positive,
which means that they act like lactase i.e. they digest lactose. It is a good
idea therefore to take DTECTA Probiotics if you are lactose intolerant. |

An important consideration when choosing a probiotic is survival – all DTECTA Probiotics are developed to survive gastric acidity
when taken at the correct time of day. In general, at mealtimes the stomach’s gastric acidity is naturally at pH 4 or above. This means that there is expected
high survival through the gastric acid of the stomach. It is therefore advisable to take DTECTA Probiotics with meals. |
